The phone does not turn on.

One of the simplest reasons your phone will not turn is low charge. The first thing you should do is plug the phone into the charger. As the device is charging, an indicator will show the amount needed to charge.

If the phone will not power up when it is fully charged, then the issue may be related to the battery or the charger (see topic “The phone will not charge”).

If you connect the battery incorrectly then your phone will not power on. To check battery installation, remove the back case (found in our battery replacement guide), align the metal prongs on the battery with the metal prongs on the phone, and firmly press the battery in.

If the phone has charge, the phone will vibrate and power on.

The phone will not charge when connected to charger.

It is common that the charging cable isn’t connected properly. A proper connection is one where the pieces fit snugly and are not loosened up. To check your cable connections:

  • Check to see if the USB connection to the wall plug is securely connected.Check to see if the connection between the charging port of the device and the charging head is securely connected.

Over time, accumulation of debris in the charging port at the base of the phone may cause the phone to stop functioning correctly. To fix this, shine a light in the USB charging port, and clean with a cotton wrapped toothpick.

The biggest issue of charger failure stems from the USB micro cable. Possible damages include bending at the ends of the cable, which can cause the wires to tear, preventing the charger from charging the phone . If you see visible damages, then replace the cable with a new one.

If the phone will not power on from the other steps, then the battery has likely lost functionality. You can follow this guide to replace the battery.

Sometimes software has problems that can often be fixed by installing a new system update.

To check for an available update, navigate to the following pages:

Settings > Software update > Download and install > Update Now

Your phone may power off and restart while installing the update. This is normal and expected.

Apps can often freeze or lag when too many of some other apps are still running and clogging up memory. Doing a soft reset allows for the device to be restarted without erasing data. The reset closes all applications and clears data in random access memory. Before starting, ensure the device is at least 50% charged, otherwise it may not turn back on after reboot.

To do a soft reset:

  • If you can’t remove the battery, hold the VOLUME DOWN + POWER buttons simultaneously for seven seconds, until the phone vibrates. The device should restart and display the brand logo.If you can remove the battery (see our battery replacement guide), remove it, wait a few seconds, then place it back in, and turn the device on.

If the device powers on but won’t load the operating system or boots straight to the brand logo, you may have corrupted software. In this case, you should perform a hard reset. A hard reset completely erases all of your personal data off the phone. Ensure the device is charged at least 50%, or it may not turn on after reboot.

Be sure to remember your Google account login information so that you can restore your information from a backup. The Factory Reset Protection (FRP) Lock will not allow you to use the device until you log in again with your Google account.

It is also a good idea to remember the login information for all of your apps so you can access them after the reset.

Be sure to decrypt your microSD card if you have one. Decryption is the removal of an additional security wall that was put in place to protect personal data from being seen should the phone get lost or stolen. Without this step, the reset is not possible, since the data is locked away.

In Settings, search for “Decrypt SD card” > , select >, and follow the on-screen prompts.

To perform a hard reset:

  • Turn off the phone: press and hold POWER > select “power off” from menu optionsPress and hold VOLUME UP + HOME + POWER buttons until the logo appears.Release POWER onlyRelease the rest of the buttons when “recovery mode” screen appears.Using VOLUME DOWN button, select “wipe data/factory reset” >press POWER button to confirm.Using VOLUME DOWN button, select “yes-delete all user data” > press POWER button to confirm.Select “reboot system now” > press POWER to confirm.Set up as old device using “Google Account and Password, Backup and Restore”, or set up as new device.

The device is unable to download applications, take pictures, and hold further memory.

The memory card is a small flat drive used in mobile phones that stores digital information. In the ZTE Maven 2, it is located in the back of the phone. It may just need to be taken out and put back in again. Follow our memory card replacement guide.

If the problem persists, you can check the storage capacity of the device to manage your storage.

To check the memory card’s storage capacity for data:

  • Swipe down from “notification bar”Select “settings” iconScroll and select storage > available internal memory and storage space will be displayedNavigate to desired storage locationClick on desired appsDelete unused/unnecessary junk to free up storage

The cache is comprised of files, scripts and multimedia stored on your device after opening an app or visiting a website for the first time. It uses memory to store files downloaded directly from the web. When it becomes full, it can take up storage

To clear app cache:

  • Swipe down from “notification bar”Click the “settings” iconClick “apps”Click desired appClick “storage”Click “clear cache”

Users of the ZTE Maven 2 can purchase a larger memory card to free up internal memory in the phone.

To access the memory card slot, follow our memory card replacement guide.

Transfer files to the cloud to free up storage.

To transfer files to the cloud:

  • Swipe down from notification bar and click “settings”Scroll to “backup and reset”Ensure that “back up my data” and automatic restore is “on”Click “backup account” or add an account for a new backup accountData will be backed up to this account and will free up storage on phone

The phone seems to progressively get warmer while using the device.

Remove from direct sunlight and place in a cool environment. Wait for the device to cool down before attempting to use it again.

To perform a software update make sure your device is fully charged and connected to Wi-Fi.

To install an update, go to Settings > Software update > Download and install > Update Now.

Reduce phone usage of resource-hungry tasks  (e.g. recording long videos, prolonged use of gaming, screen-mirroring, and/or usage of WiFi-Hotspot).

Keep bluetooth connections to a minimum. A bluetooth connection allows devices to communicate with each other and share data.

To access bluetooth settings:

  • Swipe down from the notification barselect the “settings” iconClick  on “bluetooth”swipe bluetooth switch to “OFF” position when not in use

Make sure the device isn’t plugged into the charger for a prolonged period of time after it has reached 100%.

Make sure to use the charger and adapter that came with the device or a ZTE approved charger. A different charger could risk damaging the battery or cause it to explode.

Phone doesn’t connect to signals nearby, or constantly disconnects from WiFi.

Sometimes, resetting the network settings allows for the device to establish a new cellular connection, fixing the problem.

To perform a network refresh: Hold down the power button > select “restart”.

Outdated software sometimes causes bugs and malware if there are pending updates. Check and see if there are any required updates; if there are, install them.

Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install > Update Now.

You may have selected the wrong network settings on your device. To fix this, reset the network settings which will restore Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Mobile Networks.

Follow these steps below:

  • Open “settings” and scroll to the bottomSelect “system”, then “reset options"Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile and BluetoothSelect the affected network below the screenSelect “reset settings”

Wi-Fi may not have been enabled on the phone.

To connect to the WiFi:

  • swipe down on the notification bargo to “settings” and select the wifi iconselect the wifi switch to “enable” and select the desired network. If you are connecting to a secure network, then enter the Wifi password and select “connect”.

When you successfully connect to the Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi icon will appear in the middle of the notification bar.
