Introduction

If the frame is deformed, it’s important to replace it to make sure the new screen will mount correctly and won’t suffer damage from uneven pressure.

Due to the phone’s design, you must remove the lithium-ion battery to access the display cables. If the battery was deformed during removal replace it with a new one—reusing a deformed battery is a potential safety hazard.

Before disassembling your phone, discharge the battery below 25%. The battery can catch fire and/or explode if accidentally punctured, but the chances of that happening are much lower if discharged.

Note: This guide instructs you to replace only the screen while leaving the original frame and motherboard in place. However, some replacement screens for this phone come pre-installed in a new frame (a.k.a. chassis), which requires a very different procedure. Make sure you have the correct part before starting this guide.

You’ll need replacement adhesive to reattach components when reassembling the device.

What you need

Step 1

              SIM Card tray removal
  • Insert a SIM card eject tool or a paperclip into the small hole in the SIM card tray, located near the top left corner of the Poco M3.
  • Press firmly to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray from the phone by pulling it out of the phone assembly.
  • If the tray holds a SIM card it will fall out easily.
  • When reinserting the SIM card, make sure it’s in the correct orientation inside the SIM card tray.
  • A thin rubber gasket around the SIM card tray provides water and dust protection. If this gasket is damaged or missing, replace the gasket or the entire SIM card tray to protect your Poco M3’s internal components.

              Insert a spudger
  • Insert a spudger into the charging port at a steep angle.
  • Do not insert the spudger in a flat angle like you would do with a charging cable to avoid damaging the charging port.
  • Use the spudger to create a gap between the phone assembly and the back cover by prying the back cover away from the bottom edge of the screen.

If possible, turn on your device and test your repair before installing new adhesive and resealing.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. Apply new adhesive where necessary after cleaning the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).

The best way to secure the new screen is to apply a sheet of custom-cut double-sided tape to the back of the screen.
