The computer will not respond when attempting to power up.
Make sure the power adapter is fully plugged in to both the wall and computer. If the indicator light next to the charging port on the computer is off, there is a problem with your cord. Consider purchasing a new power adapter.
Make sure the power adapter is not faulty (see the above solution) and is connected to the device. Charge the laptop for about half an hour and try powering up with the power adapter still connected. Disconnect the power adapter and if the notebook shuts off, the battery is not storing charge and needs to be replaced. See our guide for Battery Replacement.
The computer runs slower than usual, and files cannot be saved anymore.
Consider deleting unneeded files and programs. Check the “Downloads” folder first to see if there are files no longer needed, such as installers. Also, uninstall unnecessary programs by typing “Settings” in the Windows Search Bar, opening the Windows Settings Program, and selecting “Apps”. The page shows all installed applications and provides an efficient way to uninstall them. Note: Finding and uninstalling each program will not always delete associated files; the solution mentioned above is recommended.
There are three ways to solve this problem:
- Offload Files to a Portable Device: Consider purchasing a portable hard drive to store excess and future data. Usually, the portable drive does not hold regularly-needed files. When the files on the drive are needed, they can be easily accessed. Upload Files to a Cloud: Upload files to free online cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. The files are easily accessed by almost any device with internet connection. You can also transfer files from one device to another with ease since the data is stored on one web page.Upgrade the Solid State Drive (SSD): Refer to the Xiaomi Air 12 user guide and purchase a compatible M.2 Solid State Drive. If you plan to replace the current solid state drive, you will need a copy of Windows to install on the new drive. See our guide for SSD Replacement to upgrade your storage.
Static or crackling sound comes out of the speakers.
Make sure you are playing a non-corrupted audio or video file. Play the file with headphones or on another device to see if the problem persists. If the problem continues, it is an issue with the file, not your device. However, if it is a file-related issue, refer to these YouTube videos for detailed tutorials to repair audio and video files.
Ensure the speakers, located in the base of the computer, are not blocked. The audio output is minimized or distorted if the computer is resting on a surface, like a bed. Test the speaker by playing a non-corrupted audio or video file and see if the problem persists. If so, see our Xiaomi Air 12 Speaker Replacement guide.
The computer won’t load the operating system and shows an error message.
Try turning the power on to start your computer. If the device does not boot into Windows when powering on and instead fails to load or shows an error, it is likely there is a hard drive error. To ensure this is not a software issue, follow the steps on the Create installation media for Windows guide for your current operating system. Restart your computer, boot to DVD, and choose “Repair Your Computer”. Click “Startup Repair” and let it run. If your Xiaomi Air 12 still does not boot correctly, it is a hardware error and you need to replace your hard drive. See our SSD Replacement Guide to do this.
Make sure the computer is charged and turned on; the LED next to the power button will be on when the computer is powered up. If the screen shows nothing and the computer makes a series of “beep” sounds, the motherboard is likely damaged. A motherboard failure message is usually one beep followed by three, four or five beeps. If the noises are heard, head to our Motherboard Replacement Guide.
When using the trackpad, the cursor on the screen does not move or make selections.
When using the keyboard on the Xiaomi Air 12, the trackpad becomes disabled to prevent accidental mouse clicks.
Assuming Windows is installed on your device (each notebook comes with it by default), follow these steps:
- Go to “Control Panel” (Press “Windows Key” + “R” and type “control” in the search box and press “Enter”).In the new pop-up window , type “Device Manager” in the search box at the top-right corner. Select “Device Manager” from the search result. Another pop-up window will appear.Select the arrow next to “Mice and other pointing devices”.Right click on the Trackpad driver and select update.
If you checked that it is not a software problem, then the trackpad may need replacement. See our Xiaomi Air 12 Trackpad Replacement guide.
