The Xbox won’t turn on even though you’re pressing the power button.

First make sure that the outlet you are using has power coming out of it by plugging in any other device and seeing if it receives power. If there is power read on.

If you know there is power coming out of the wall but the device still will not turn on, check the power cable. Use a volt meter to see that the specified voltage and amperage is coming out of the end that plugs into the Xbox. If appropriate power is not coming out of the power cable then it is likely broken and you will need to replace the power cable. If that is not the problem, read on.

If there is power coming through both the outlet and power cable but the Xbox will not turn on, the power button may be broken. The power button may feel loose or not “click” when you push the button. Go to our Xbox 360 E Button Board Replacement guide to fix this issue.

At this point, if there is not an issue with the outlet or power cable, it is most likely either a problem with the Xbox power plug or the motherboard. If the connection within the Xbox is broken you will need to replace the motherboard, because the two are connected. See the Xbox 360 E Motherboard Replacement guide.

The disk drive isn’t opening even though you’re pressing the eject button.

If the eject button feels out of place and could possibly be broken, follow our Xbox 360 E Button Board Replacement guide to fix it.

If the button is working but the disk drive still will not open there are two possible issues, a broken disk drive or a problem with the motherboard. Checking and replacing the disk drive is the easier and cheaper possible problem and we recommend you check this first.

You can check if the disk drive is the problem by opening the console to determine if the disk drive is broken. You can do this by following our Xbox 360 E CD Drive Replacement guide on installing a new disk drive but do not buy a replacement at this point. After checking the connections on the disk drive, if the drive still does not work, you can replace it by following our guide on replacing the disk drive. If this is not the issue you may have an issue with the motherboard. Follow the Xbox 360 E Motherboard Replacement guide to fix it.

If there are no problems with the disk drive itself, it is possible the motherboard is broken and isn’t delivering power to the disk drive or button board. Go to the Xbox 360 E Motherboard Replacement guide to fix this.

The CD is in the disk drive but the screen is blank, or the game stops while you’re playing.

Eject the disk and check to make sure that the correct side of the disk is facing outward. The graphical side of the disk should be visible when putting the disk in and should face away from the body of the console. If the disk is correctly oriented read on.

Eject the disk and look at the non graphical side, looking closely for any scratches. If there are scratches you can carefully clean it with a lint-free cloth and attempt to use the disk again. If there are scratches and it still doesn’t work you may have to replace the disk. If you don’t see scratches read on.

The disk drive may not be reading the disk. To check this, try inserting a different disk, such as a DVD that you know will work, and see if the Xbox can read it. If the disk is not read it is likely an issue with the disk drive. Go to the Xbox 360 E CD Drive Replacement guide to fix this.

If the disk drive is not the cause of the problem, then the motherboard may be broken. See the Xbox 360 E Motherboard Replacement guide to fix it.

Saved games won’t load.

First, see our Xbox 360 E Hard Drive Replacement guide on how to access the hard drive and try to unplug and re-plug in the hard drive. If that does not solve the issue, get a new hard drive and follow the guide above to replace it.

If a brand new hard drive is not working, there is most likely a problem with the motherboard. See the Xbox 360 E Motherboard Replacement guide to solve the problem.

The Xbox is connected to the monitor or TV through an HDMI cable, but nothing comes up on the screen.

Check to ensure that your monitor or TV has power and is turned on to be able to receive a signal. If it is then read on.

Ensure that the HDMI cable is correctly connected to both the monitor and the Xbox. Also make sure that your monitor or TV is set to the correct input to receive the signal from the Xbox. If it is then read on.

Check the HDMI cable with another device. If the HDMI cable works then make sure that other device works with your monitor or TV. If both of those are working read on.

If the cable is not the issue, the Xbox may have a broken HDMI output plug. Go to the Xbox 360 E Motherboard Replacement guide to fix this issue.

The console doesn’t respond when you try pushing buttons on the controller.

Make sure the controller is charged and turned on. Turn on the Xbox and try to connect your controller to the Xbox by pressing the center guide button (the big green X button) on the controller. If the controller has power, lights will rotate around the guide button that will stop rotating and remain green when the controller is connected. If the controller is working but still won’t connect, read on.

The WiFi card in the Xbox that connects to nearby controllers may be broken. You will know this is the problem if your controllers are working properly but will not connect to the Xbox or your Xbox is not connecting to WiFi. To fix this go to the Xbox 360 E Wi-Fi Card Replacement guide.

The Xbox will not be able to download games, connect to the internet, or connect to controllers.

If your Xbox is not able to connect to WiFi, first make sure that there is a WiFi signal available. You can do this by connecting to WiFi through another device. You can also, if within your home, directly check your wireless router to ensure there is power and a signal being produced. If there is an issue with your router contact your internet provider to resolve the issue. If there is available WiFi signal and your Xbox still will not connect read on.

Many WiFi signals are password protected. If the WiFi signal you are trying to connect to is password protected, make sure that your Xbox is properly set up with the correct password. When connecting to a WiFi signal enter the correct password when prompted. If the correct password is entered and your Xbox will not connect read on.

If there are WiFi signals to connect to but your Xbox will not connect there is possibly and issue with your WiFi card. To fix this go to the Xbox 360 E Wi-Fi Card Replacement guide.

An error code will display when there is an issue with the internal parts of the device.

Error codes will be a display on the screen listing what the specific error code is while instructing you to contact customer service along with a display of green or red lights in varying patterns around the power button of the console. For a list of how to determine what your error code means, visit the list of common error codes.
