Short for Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle!, Yahoo! was created in February 1994 by two Stanford University Ph.D. candidates David Filo and Jerry Yang. Today, Yahoo! is one of the most well-known and frequently visited pages on the Internet. On July 29, 2009, Yahoo! and Microsoft announced a 10-year search deal where the Yahoo! search would be replaced by Bing.

Yahoo Mail is one of many e-mail providers on the Internet, initially launched in 1997. Yahoo offers members a service of sending and receiving e-mail, using a web-based interface and portal. Members can also opt for paid services that include more storage, increased e-mail attachments, POP e-mail forwarding, and e-mail archival for offline access. Today, Yahoo Mail is still a popular e-mail provider.
