Before the Microsoft mobile operating system called Windows Phone, there was Windows Mobile. The Windows Mobile operating system was based on the Windows CE platform and phones using this mobile OS came with a stylus for tapping on the screen. Microsoft designed Windows Mobile to have a similar appearance as the standard Windows operating system found on desktop and laptop computers.
The first real iteration of Windows Mobile was called Pocket PC 2000 and was released on April 19, 2000. A later version of the mobile OS was released as Windows Mobile 2003 on June 23, 2003. It was succeeded by the Windows Phone operating system and applications running on Windows Mobile were not compatible with Windows Phone.
