Short for Virtual YouTuber, a VTuber is a content creator on YouTube and other video streaming platforms that opts to use an animated avatar instead of showing their real face. This trend is popular among gaming channels and other channels focusing on more virtual topics.

Generally, VTuber avatars take the form of anime-style characters representing the channel. The VTuber uses facial-tracking software to map movements detected from webcam footage. This information is copied onto a 3-D character face in real time, which can then be added as an element in OBS or Streamlabs in real-time.
