Uber may refer to any of the following:

  1. Uber is the name of a company that was founded in March 2009 by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp. It hires people to drive other people to a specific destination, much like a taxi.

The Uber service works by the rider and driver downloading an app for their smartphone. For the driver, they log into the service and let the service know they are ready to drive people. For the rider, they log into the service and indicate where they need to go. After receiving the request, Uber notifies the driver to pick up the passenger, and the rider is notified the driver is on their way. Once the ride is complete, the rider pays Uber, who in turn pays a percentage to the driver.

Uber’s primary competitor is Lyft.

  1. Alternatively called über, uber comes from the German word “above” or “over” and is used as a way to express something that triumphs over everything else. Below is an example of how this term could be used.
