The art and approach of arranging typed characters to make a written language both beautiful, and improving its readability, is called typography. An involved process, typography includes selecting point size, typefaces, kerning, and leading, and the length of each line. Stemming from the Greek words for “form” and “to write,” typography is used widely in all areas of print; from books and magazines to online broadcasts and television shows.
Typography vs. type design
Although typography is used in various professions (graphic and web designers, clerical works, book artists, etc.), designing the look of type is not always considered a part of typography. Most typographers do not create typefaces themselves, and some type designers do not consider themselves typographers.
