Telemedicine, alternatively known as telehealth, is a portmanteau of the words “telecommunication” and “medicine.” It refers to telecommunications technology used by the medical industry to connect with patients. Telemedicine services allow patients and doctors to virtually meet using proprietary video chat software to secure their private information. Telemedicine also enables prospective patients to consult with specialty doctors without the need to travel long distances.
Other telemedicine technologies include biomonitors for information like heart rate and blood pressure, which can be tracked and broadcasted to professionals in real-time.
