Short for search engine result page, SERP is a term that describes the page that generates from a search query and the results listed on the page.

Below is a search engine results page for “computer help” with each section of the results highlighted in red. To help condense the results, we have removed some advertisements and local results.
As shown in the above example, some SERP can include more than only web page results to help accommodate all types of searches. In our example above, if you counted all advertisements and local results (we removed many to condense the image), the first web page result is the eighth result. Unfortunately, for these result pages it can make it difficult and often impossible to rank on the first page. If you are trying to rank your website higher on a SERP page, like our example, try to focus on the local results or related searches.
