QLED is a technology used in some flat-panel digital displays, utilizing QD (quantum dots), rather than traditional OLEDs, to create the component RGB colors of the display. The term “QLED” was first announced at CES 2017 by Samsung to brand their proprietary QD technologies. QLED is also short for quantum-dot light emitting diode or quantum-dot LED.

Compared to the AMOLED displays used in many high-end Smart TVs and flagship mobile devices, QLEDs can provide greater brightness and a broader color gamut. When illuminated, the red, green, and blue quantum dots are capable of producing light frequencies that are closer to pure color.

As of 2020, QLED technology is available to consumers in select high-end display products, including 4K and 8K TVs.
