Short for program information file, PIF is a file used in Microsoft Windows operating systems containing information used to run an MS-DOS application in the Windows environment. PIF files were commonly used in Microsoft Windows 3.x; however, with the absence of MS-DOS applications, PIF files are seldom used today.
