Short for Personal Computer Disk operating system, PC-DOS is a text-based operating system first released by IBM in August 1981. In 1999, IBM repackaged PC-DOS as PC-DOS 2000, making PC-DOS Y2K compliant. PC-DOS has similarities to Microsoft’s MS-DOS, and can even run in conjunction with Microsoft Windows 3.x.
PC-DOS is based on an unauthorized clone of CP/M, which Microsoft purchased from Seattle Software Works.
