Included in many applications that rely on an Internet connection, offline mode is a method for using a service with no Internet connection. For example, streaming services, like Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube, stream content from their servers, relying on a constant connection to the Internet. In offline mode, these services become limited in functionality, retaining some of their features that still work while offline. Users with premium subscriptions to Spotify or YouTube can download libraries of content to their computer for temporary periods of time to view or listen to them in offline mode.
Some applications automatically switch to offline mode when losing their Internet or network connection, and notify the user when that connection is lost. For some apps on mobile devices, you can also enable offline mode through the settings menu to save on cellular data.
