Short for Network Time Protocol, NTP is a protocol introduced in 1988 that is used on computer networks to synchronize the time of computers and network devices. NTP version 1 is defined in RFC 1059, NTP version 2 is defined in RFC 1119, and NTP version 3 is defined in RFC 1305.
