With computer graphics, nonlinear video editing, nonlinear editing, or NLE is assembling a video from live footage, animation, text, or still images using nonlinear video editing software. It is called nonlinear because the parts that make up the video can be rearranged and inserted in any order. After creating a video this way, the computer puts all the pieces together (called “rendering”) and can play the video or output as a video file.
