Short for Microcom network protocol, MNP is a communications protocol developed by Microcom Inc. that is included with many modems. It specifies data compression and error control, which corrects unwanted changes caused by telephone line interference during data transmissions. MNP offers various levels: MNP level 4 offers error correction, level 5 adds data compression capabilities, and level 6 offers error correction and data compression abilities.
