Media may refer to any of the following:
- More commonly known as digital media or medium, media is the plural form of medium and describes computer storage. For example, a floppy diskette, CD, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and USB flash drives are all physical media used to store data. Is physical media obsolete?
Many of today’s computers no longer come with physical media disc drives making physical media obsolete. However, USB flash drives and other storage devices are still required and used today. So, all types of physical media are not obsolete, but earlier physical media like floppy diskettes, tape drives, and in many cases, disc drives are obsolete.
Media is a term to describe multimedia data. For example, audio and video are two different examples of storable media.
When referring to a collaboration of data or social sharing of data, this type of media is called social media.
When describing an organization or company, “media” or “the media” is responsible for communicating events to a large group of people through the Internet, television, newspaper, or radio.
