The magicJack is a device that allows a computer user to make unlimited phone calls to the U.S. and Canada using an Internet connection. The device connects to the computer’s USB port and has an RJ-11 phone jack into which a standard telephone cable can be plugged. It was first released in 2008.

An updated model called the magicJack Plus, that requires an Internet connection but does not require a computer, was released in 2011.
