First released in 1996 for Microsoft Windows 98, IrfanView is a freeware program (for non-commercial use) used to edit and view digital images. It provides tools for adding effects to photos, creating slideshows and screen savers, and TWAIN support, facilitating scanner interaction. IrfanView supports many image file types, including BMP, GIF, ICO, JPG, PNG, TIFF and many others. It is also capable of opening and playing MP3 audio files and MPEG video files, plus several types of media files including Flash and MIDI.
