Announced in June 2019, iPadOS is an operating system developed by Apple for the iPad family of devices. Previously, iPads have used iOS, the same operating system as the iPhone. However, moving forward, iPadOS will be a separate operating system with additional features to compete with more advanced tablet computers, like the Microsoft Surface.
New iPadOS features include home screen widgets, ability to open applications in windowed or split-screen, and an improved file storage system that can be shared with a desktop computer.
