The Intellivision is a video game console released in 1979 by American toy manufacturer Mattel which was intended to compete with the Atari 2600. It was extremely successful, selling over 3 million units and supporting a library of 125 games.
The Intellivision’s controllers were shaped like remote controls, with a flat-topped joystick and twelve buttons underneath in the style of a telephone keypad. Each game came with a custom controller overlay that slid over the keypad, labeling each button’s specific function for the game.
