In-line or inline is any element contained within a program, document, or message. For example, with HTML, inline code is anything built into the web page, instead of being loaded from an external file. The majority of content seen on this page is inline, but the images and CSS file are external.
When referring to how HTML or CSS is displayed, an inline element stays in the same line as the code that surrounds the text. For example, the bolded text of “in-line” and “inline” in the above paragraph are both inline elements.
