Hotjava is a web browser from Sun Microsystems that was written in Java. At the time (1996), it was the first web browser that was capable of supporting Java applets. Development of the browser originally began in 1994 under the name “WebRunner”. It was criticized for slowness, which was due to the limitations of the Java Virtual Machine during that time. Currently, Hotjava is no longer being produced and is no longer supported.
