HELO is an SMTP command sent by an e-mail client when connecting to an e-mail server. The command tells the server that the client wishes to initiate an e-mail transaction and is followed by the client’s domain name. For example, the e-mail client may say “HELO e-mail.myhost.com”; this is the SMTP equivalent of saying “Hello, my name is e-mail.myhost.com.”
