Google Tag Manager or GTM is a Google service that allows website publishers to add and remove tags through a web-based user interface instead of updating HTML code directly. For example, after adding GTM code to a website, users can create new tags to track when someone performs an action without knowing how to code. Actions that tags can track include clicking a link or performing a search. By creating these trackers a company can get a better understanding of how their web page is or is not being used.
