Initially released in November 1999 by the name Animo, GameMaker Studio is a game development platform created by YoYo Games. The most recent version, GameMaker Studio 2, allows users to create two-dimensional games using the customizable interface. Tools include an animation workstation, image editors, sound mixers, and object and script editors. It also supports a proprietary scripting language called GameMaker Language, a modified version of the C language for use with the software.
GameMaker Studio 2 licenses vary in price based on the development platform. Available platforms include Windows and macOS, mobile platforms Android, iOS, and Fire OS, and the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch game consoles. Additionally, games can be developed for HTML5 to run on compatible web browsers.
