Short for f***ed up beyond all repair, FUBAR is slang that describes a situation as impossibly dysfunctional or hopeless. It has its origin in wartime, when soldiers frequently described their situation using the term. Today, it is also sometimes used in chat rooms and text messages to describe something that is unorganized or damaged, with no hope for repair.
