Short for free-space optical communication and also known as infrared broadband or optical wireless, FSO is a point-to-point communications standard that uses infrared lasers. Unlike fiber optics, which utilized light sent through glass, FSO transmits data through the air using mirrors and lenses. Although similar to radio communication, FSO is that it does not require a spectrum license.
