What Is Enhanced Mode

Often, you will see this term used in the phrase 386-enhanced mode, which is used by 386, 486, and Pentium Windows-based computers. This mode takes advantage of virtual memory to allow more than one program to run at a time.

Enhanced mode is the standard mode used by Windows for Workgroups and can be run by Windows 3.1 requiring at least 2 MB of RAM. It also allows DOS applications to be run within a window in Windows.
