DJ may refer to any of the following:

  1. Short for disc jockey, DJ is a person responsible for playing recorded music for people. For example, a radio DJ is one or more people responsible for playing music, commercials, and announcements on a radio station.

A DJ uses audio equipment (e.g., DJ mixer, audio mixer, or turntable) or a computer capable of mixing recorded music. While playing music, the DJ may use headphones to listen to upcoming audio or work on mixing audio to be played later. The DJ may also use a microphone to talk to the audience or allow others to talk or sing.

The term “disc” was original used because the DJ switched between vinyl records (discs) to change what music was being played. Today, the term describes anyone who mixes any recorded music.
