What Is Socket 7
The Socket 7 is an Intel processor socket with 321-pin (a few used 296-pin) holes in 37x37 rows, and ran between 2.5 and 3.5v. It is the first and only socket to support processors from different manufacturers. One of the biggest changes to the Socket 7 socket was not the socket, but the VRM (voltage regulator module) found on any motherboard using this socket.
